As A Hardgainer, How Are You Making Gains?

I am trying to consume 3,500 calories a day, but I am probably only getting 2,500. Weight gain is due to food intake and muscle building. The physique of my body comes from following the P90X program, and the P90X program ONLY!

Do You Do Yoga X?

I am going to be honest: I have only completed Yoga X one time, and have only done it a handful of times. Heck, I haven't even put in X Stretch. I don't know, but there's just something about 1 hour and 20 minutes of Yoga that makes me think: "Yuck."

If I were, I'd probably be even more ripped. No. I am not following the diet guide. My diet consists of a good healthy morning meal, but worsens later in the day.

You could, but I wouldn't.

Ripped Journey | P90X Workout Has An Answer:

Doing P90X every other day is like doing P90X half way. If you're only going to workout every other day, then a program like P90X probably isn't the right program for you.

Recommendation:

If you're only going to do P90X every other day, I wouldn't even do the program at all. Do another program. Something like Turbo Jam or 10 minute trainer.

P90X Shoulders, Arms, and Ab Ripper X Recap:

Pre-Workout:

Falling out of my sleeping pattern: I went to sleep at 12:30 AM. My girlfriend wasn't feeling well, so I have already fallen out of my sleeping pattern. No big, though. I'll jump right back in it tonight.

Workout:

I have the proper weights: As I stated in my previous posts, I finally got a good set of P90X ready dumbbells that actually work, and actually go up to 50 pounds, instead of 25 pounds. Now that I have the right weights, I can actually lift the amount of weight that I need to lift.

Today's workout went well: Today's workout went extremely well. After my workout, I decided to eat. Yesterday, I was really hungry all day. Because of this, I decided to up my caloric intake to 1000 calories at breakfast, and 3500 total calories during the day.

Summary Of Daily Recap:

  1. I have the proper set of dumbbells to workout with!
  2. I upped my caloric intake.

How Long Does It Take For P90X To Work?

Ripped Journey | P90X Workout Has An Answer:

A lot of people have been asking me how long it takes for P90X to work. There are a few factors that will determine how soon you will begin to notice and feel the difference. For me, it took about 2 weeks to feel the difference, and see a slight difference.

Factors that determine how quickly you'll get results from P90X:

  1. Diet guide - Using or not using it?
  2. Intensity - Are you truly bringing it?
  3. Supplementation - Proper supplementation has been shown to bring results faster.
  4. Workouts - Are you doing them everyday? Are you following proper routine?

Of course, the above list is only a few factors that will determine how quickly you will get your results from P90X. But if you stick to the program, you will eventually see results regardless. Full results come in 90 days, but I have seen many get better results after 180 days, a full year, two years, etc.

Recommendation:

Stick with it! You may think you're not getting results, but let's put it this way: Following the P90X program now, is probably better than sitting on the couch, and will probably get you way more results, too.

P90X Plyometrics Daily Recap:

Pre-Workout:

Getting Back on my Sleeping Pattern: I got up at 6:30 in the morning today. Don't ask me how, because I literally went from sleeping in until 1:00 PM yesterday, to waking up today, as early as I did... And I really don't know how I did it.

No Modification Day: One of the other reasons I am redoing Phase 1 of P90X is because of modifications. First time around, I really felt like I modified too often. This second round I am doing of Phase 1, I have no excuses - and no reason to modify.

Workout:

Last Time I Did Plyometrics: Last week, I did Plyometrics and I had 29 minutes left in my workout, before I really began to modify. Today, I got to that same point, and even surpassed that point, with modifications of only some, but not all moves under the 29 minute point.

I can Finally do High Knee Jumps: I have never been able to do high knee jumps. I always had to modify, and just do jumping jacks. Today was the first day that I could actually do high knee jumps. They totally killed me, but I totally did it. :)

Completed the Workout! I completed Plyometrics today with flying colors. I had to modify only some moves under the 29 minute mark. I remember when I first started Plyo; I was tired after the lunge sequence in the beginning. Lol. My results are definitely showing in all ways.

Summary Of Daily Recap:

  1. I'm getting back in my 10:30 PM - 6:30 AM sleeping pattern.
  2. Round 2 of Phase 1 is no - modification phase.
  3. My Plyometric skills have improve since last week.
  4. I can finally do high knee jumps.
  5. Oh, I can hold my breath for 1 minute now. I used to only be able to for 20 seconds!

Tomorrow:

Day 3*: P90X Shoulders, Arms, and Ab Ripper X

P90X: Can't Do Pullups? So What Do I Do?

Question:

Can I Do P90X If I Can't Do Pullups?

Answer:

Yes! You Definitely Can!

Ripped Journey | P90X Workout Has An Answer:

Even if you can't do pullups, you can still follow the P90X program, because there are modifications, and different pieces of equipment that you can use, that will still workout the same muscle group.

If you can't do pullups, there are two solutions.

  1. Use a chair and push up slightly with your legs to get yourself to do a pullup.
  2. Use the bands.

Remember, Tony Horton will show you how to modify P90X moves, so even if you can't do the real move, you can still get a great burn, and great results.

Recommendation:

If you can't do pullups, don't skip them altogether. Instead, follow the modifications that I discussed above, and that Tony discusses in the DVD.

I Modify: Although I can do pullups, I still modify. The P90X is so intense, that I sometimes need to use a chair to help me do pullups. It's no big deal, and it still gives me a great workout.

Why Are You On Day 1 of P90X, again?

My Body Isn't Ready for Phase 2: Hey guys. I had to make a huge decision after following 6 days of Phase 2, which is the phase that I should really be on. You see, I began doing Phase 2 of P90X, and I noticed something - My body just wasn't ready for Phase 2. In fact, it wasn't even close to being ready.

Muscle Confusion Works, BUT: I realize that the Muscle Confusion in P90X is what brings results, but when I couldn't even follow half of the moves on the Phase 2 discs, I just knew that I was NOT ready.

Solution: My solution is to do Phase 1 again, but with less modification, more intensity, more weight, more repetitions, and more of everything else.

Having Proper Equipment is also Important: And now that I actually have a set of dumbbells that goes above 25 pounds, I am sure that my workouts will go a lot smoother.

Pre-Workout:

I literally slept in until 1 in the afternoon today. Usually, when I sleep in, I am bound to a bad day. I didn't want to let that happen today though.

Tip Of The Day: If you can develop consistent sleeping patterns, I highly recommend it.

Workout:

Everything has increased! Since I first started P90X 35 days ago, I could only do around 30 pushups at the beginning, now I can do 40. I am seeing great results and always increasing weights and reps with this program.

No Nausea: Another thing I noticed was the workout - It didn't make me nauseated like it usually does. Something about the P90X Chest and Back routine usually makes me want to hurl - but not today.

Ab Ripper X: Part of my other program with my first time around P90X was the fact that I skipped Ab Ripper X and X Stretch so much. I really want to get full benefits from this program and for that to happen, I knew that I couldn't skip those routines any longer. Ab Ripper X is a killer, but you definitely feel the burn. Just be sure to use proper form.

Summary Of Daily Recap:

  1. My body isn't ready for round 2.
  2. I am redoing round 1 - more intensity and proper equipment.
  3. I am not going to skip Ab Ripper X or X Stretch
  4. Results are definitely showing.

P90X Plyometrics Daily Recap:

Where are journal entries 26 - 29?

Believe it or not, I am human. If I don't post journal entries, it does NOT mean I skipped the workout. It just means that I was too busy, or too lazy to post an entry.

Yesterday, I Met A P90X'er:

I was at the grocery store with my girlfriend yesterday, talking about how I had to do Plyometrics today. I heard a lady behind me say, "Oh! You're doing P90X?" We had a good little chitchat about how she just had her baby, but had previously done 2 weeks of the P90X program.

Celebrities Follow The P90X Program: With that said, you are NOT the only individual doing the P90X program. In fact, celebrities like Taylor Lautner, Ashton Kutcher, and Demi Moore, have also been known for following the P90X program!

Pre-Workout:

It's Spring Break, and I have been sleeping in like a 14-year-old teenager, who stays up until 4:00 in the morning playing Call of Duty. And even though I have been sleeping in, I have still been consistently following the P90X program!

Tip Of The Day: By day 30, you're going to have a lot more stamina then you had in day 2. It's time to ramp it up, folks! Begin to place more intensity into your workouts. During week 1, you may have had to modify all of the moves. This time around, you should try to move at a quicker pace, and modify less, when possible!

Workout:

I Came In With A NEW Mindset: With 29 days of P90X under my belt, I told myself that today was the day to really bring it. I wanted to modify less and bring more intensity to Plyometrics!

I Kept Up With The P90X Team... Somewhat: I would like to say that I completed the entire Plyometrics program, today, without modifying at all, but if I did, I would be lying. Still, I managed to do that BEST I have ever done, by keeping up with the P90X team, and following their exact moves to a T, with no modification, until about 29 minutes were left in the workout! There's no way I would've been able to do this on day 2!

I Wasn't Able To Complete Plyometrics Today: Because I brought more intensity, I wasn't able to complete Plyometrics today. Normally, I can complete the entire workout just fine, with modifications. Today though, I didn't begin to modify until I had 29 minutes left in the workout. By 15 minutes, I was completely drained, and ready to pass out, so I had to stop. Still, I am not disappointed, since I did bring more intensity.

Summary Of Daily Recap:

  1. Just because I don't post an entry, doesn't mean I didn't do the workout.
  2. I met someone at the grocery store that does P90X.
  3. Celebrities do P90X!
  4. To increase results, bring more intensity to your P90X workouts!
  5. I brought more intensity and modified way less, today!
